Agape, choice, ultimate. / 8:22 AM
God's love for us is
unconditional. Likewise, I want to be able to do the same. Loving someone unconditionally is not easy at all, not just for the fact that each and every single one of us are imperfect. If you just felt uncomfortable with me saying that line, well, you're right; no one is this world is perfect, only Jesus Christ was and is still perfect.
How about this? Try loving someone who killed your loved ones. Or someone who stole your wallet. Not easy am I right? Of course this would probably(and hopefully) not happen to us. Nearer to our hearts, how about you try loving someone who is vulgar? Someone who steals your ideas in the workplace. Or someone who does not love you back? Tough isn't it? That is why loving someone involves a cost and very often that cost is a huge one.
Like I said earlier on, love is a choice. It is not just about our feelings or our emotions for the matter. These can pass and never return again. With this said, we all love those who are nice to us. Or those who are lovable. However, we can choose to learn those who are not nice to us or those who are unlovable.
A greater capacity is what we need. Accepting those who do not love us can be difficult, but didn't Jesus do the same for us?
He loved us when we were hating one another.
He loved us when we were selfish.
He loved us when we were sinful.
He loved us when we were unlovable.
He loved us when we did not love him.
But all these did not matter to Him as he chose to love us no matter what.
And this is the love that I am referring to. The agape, unconditional love. And I want to be able to have this love and extend it to those we want or need it.
There are certain occasions where we are betrayed or we were lied to. Someone may backstab us from the back, plungging a sharp knife into your back while you weren't looking. This is also when the need for us to choose comes in. So what can we do?
1. We can hate that particular person and just hope for his downfall. Step on dog poo, fall down the stairs, get banged by the lorry etc etc.
2. We can love him/ her.
How many of us can put up our hands and declare that we will do number 2 when the situation arises? Do I see a hand there? Well, guess not. I shall say it once more. It is difficult and no one expects us to do it.
The love that I want to exude from myself would be one that is from God. One that is patient and kind. One that is not proud nor easily angered. One that trusts and protects. One that hopes and perseveres.
The Bible says that love never fails. Never. Not even once.
Well, you may not like me but I still hope to be able to love you. And you might think that I'm just trying to sound noble. Of course you have your own choice to not love me but I will still try to love you. Notice that I said that I will try cause I am not sure if I can do it also. I will try definitely. You might find me irritating, insensitive, boring, poor and stupid. All I can say is that all these does not matter to me.
I made my choice. What about you?
